Car rental service for Amex membership = TRASH

Do not pay for the membership for gold or platinum or any of American express because if you travel a-lot and are looking for car rentals. They have the worse service especially if you looking for pickup location and drop off to be both non-airport. They would tell you to go use ur points and book it direction with the car rental companies.

Need to do a little research to see the full value of the card....

I have had this card for a few months now and I absolutely love it. The points are really racking up. As this is not a true “static value cash back card”, you need to do a little research on the best ways to redeem points. While straight statement credits yield poor returns, I am utterly convinced that Amex has the best travel airline partners. Aeroplan in particular (a partner with United) let’s you redeem for United flights at barebone prices. British airways (a partner with American Airlines) has good reception values for American flights. But again, this requires that you do some research. If you are willing to give up value in your points in order to forego the research, Amex travel portal also does the trick too. But you are paying for being too lazy to research other options. Other benefits such as roadside assistance (10 miles per toe for free) also go unnoticed due to lack of looking into this cards value. The card has very generous redemption ratios at 2 points for restaurants, gas stations, and groceries. (Remember this does not mean 2% cash back as its value varies on redemption). Amex has a targeted offer portal which gives extra membership points or cash back when you shop at certain stores. 100 dollar airline incidental fee resets every calendar year so you could essentially redeem 200 dollars towards airline fees before ever paying its annual fee. Really think this card stacks up to its competition as it allows for better second year value than the Chase sapphire preferred, which only gives 2 points per travel and dining. I think both this and the chase sapphire give better value than the venture, which has no flexibility when it comes to how you redeem its miles (and therefore no flexibility on the redemption of its points.)

I got the 50k offer and it has been no hassle and the points arrived in my account. If you check online when your new statement becomes available, you will be able to see which charges received 2x or 3x points. The special monthly offers are great as well as they are usually a mix of offers with many like best buy and lowes that I was going to shop at anyway. With 2 kids, I have matched this with the everyday preferred and the points are just racking up. I have had the card a few months and with the sign up bonus, I already have enough points for a flight and throughout the year, I should have enough for lodging as well. I am a big fan of AMEX!

Reward points can add up quick with this card. I like the 2x points at gas stations because I buy a lot of fuel and there is no cap on the points you can earn in a year.

Made the requirements and received the 25000 bonus points, no hassles. Like the 2X rewards at gas stations because I buy a lot of fuel in a year.. With the one reward point to one Delta Skymile ,I will have enough miles for a international first class ticket in short order.

  • Knowing your credit score and what's on your credit report can help you determine what products to apply for. If you have fair credit, for example, you may not want to apply for a card that clearly states that only applicants with excellent credit will be approved.
  • If you don't have good credit, you may find it difficult to get approved for a card with a large sign-up bonus and a lucrative reward structure. Each credit card application ends up on your credit report, so the Nerds recommend using our credit cards comparison tool to find a card that fits your credit profile before applying.
  • If the card allows balance transfers, you may request to have balances transferred from other credit card accounts to the new card.
  • To apply for a credit card in the US, you’ll need a valid Social Security number and a positive credit history. The best rewards credit cards may require at least three to five years of good credit history, and some more than seven.
