Fraud

Opening a credit card with Discover has been the worst financial decision of my life. I was charged with over $2,000 worth of merchandise on my Discover it Miles card less than a year after opening it and when I called they said that they were handling this and would be in contact. Months later it amount was still there and when I called them about it they said that they could not validate that the charges were fraud and so it was now my payment. I honestly didn't understand so I filed a police report and they would not even accept that even though the detective could clearly even see that it was fraud (multiple locations of the same chain store within minutes). Anyways I was running around with them for months until I just canceled the card and decided to never to business with them again. This is just my personal experience but it was the worst in my 20s when I don't have &2,000 just to throw away so just want anyone else to be aware. I never had this problem with Citibank so I will stay with them.

Useless for international bookings

It claims to be a world/travel card and international transactions don't incur a conversion fee, but using the card online has been impossible. Every vendor I've tried can't process my payment using this card. I contacted them and they claim it will work when swiped. We'll see if that's true when we get to Europe but wound up switching all my travel arrangements to capital one

What am I missing about the downside of the It Miles card?

Yes, I know it's a "cheap" card with the $0 annual fee and relatively low 1.5x rewards. But it offers a 100% match after 12 months that I don't see any other company offer, which makes it incredibly valuable--even for a high spender--after a year.
Consider someone who spends $10k/month on a card. At 1.5X, that's 180k miles in 12 months. With a 100% match, that would be 360k miles with the Discover It Miles card.
By comparison, the Capital One Venture card offers 2x rewards, which would be 240k miles earned. Even if you add the 40k bonus sign up offer, that's 280k miles earned over 12 months, which is 80k less than the Discover It Miles card.
For someone who doesn't travel internationally with much frequency or need travel/airline-specific perks, what am I missing here?

You can do better

I had the Discover Student card for years before this was released and stupidly thought this would be a better card and closed my student account. The discover student card seemed to have a better rewards rate especially since you got more for amazon purchases.
Pros:-Discover's site and app is good, customer service is also good-the "miles" are basically cashback
Cons:-for some reason Discover takes FOREVER to process payments and seems to not process payments at random. -the payout is TERRIBLE. If you're using the card for $4k/month you'll amount to $30 to pay off one or two uber rides and that's about it. -no bonus for points when you start-Disocver/Diner's Club really isn't taken anywhere outside of North America

How To Apply For A Credit Card

Credit card applications are straightforward, but you'll need to meet some minimum financial requirements to get approved for the best credit card offers. Learn how to apply for a credit online and what to expect after you click submit.

  • Knowing your credit score and what's on your credit report can help you determine what products to apply for. If you have fair credit, for example, you may not want to apply for a card that clearly states that only applicants with excellent credit will be approved.
  • If you don't have good credit, you may find it difficult to get approved for a card with a large sign-up bonus and a lucrative reward structure. Each credit card application ends up on your credit report, so the Nerds recommend using our credit cards comparison tool to find a card that fits your credit profile before applying.
  • If the card allows balance transfers, you may request to have balances transferred from other credit card accounts to the new card.
  • To apply for a credit card in the US, you’ll need a valid Social Security number and a positive credit history. The best rewards credit cards may require at least three to five years of good credit history, and some more than seven.
